The front pinion seal must be starting to leak. The housing is wet and the U-joint there is also wet. I'm a little surprised that it's leaking considering that the pinion doesn't spin. I rarely ever use 4x4. So in theory the pinion should just be sitting there 99.8% of the time. Odd....
Yep. I mean, I'll check again. But it looks just like a pinion leak.
probably shimmed wrong, and makes a strain. When you out in 4x4 it vibrates slightly and causes it to leak.
my 2022 f350 had the rear already replaced due to axle shim issue.
typically the only time these pinion seals leak is, vibration, caused by bad universals, shim issue. Could be a bad seal but I’d suspect probably not especially if you have used the 4x4 some recently
Check the breather tube from the pumpkin housing, if its clogged or pinched it may be building up internal pressure, axle housings need to vent. Start using 4wd more often or simply lock in the hubs from time to time, saying you barely use 4x4 could be cause for a dried up hard rubber seal.
