now the front pinion seal is leaking...what the heck next...any idea how big of a job that is to replace? I checked the tech folders and there is nothing in there for a pinion seal...any ideas appreciated.
Thanks

I know there are definately some people that have had the pinion seal leak on the rear. I have seen previous posts on them. I would imagine that the proceedure is pretty much the same on the front as well. It has been a while since I have done a pinion seal and it was pretty simple. Just drop the drive shaft, take the nut off and pull the yoke out. If you have a seal puller use it, if not use a screwdriver and carefully work the old seal out, then put back in reverse order. You might want to check to make sure your bearing is not worn and that your yoke is not out of round. That is what normally causes the seals to leak to begin with.

Just had this done on my '01 X w/ V10. I understand that there is a special tool to press the seal - but who knows for sure. Maybe you can do it with a block of wood and a hammer? I wasn't willing to get into it for the price. The seal was about $40 from the dealer IIRC (way overpriced) and the labor was only about an hour. FWIW.
i just had mine changed on my "00 250 w/ 5.4 changed....it was about $100 for part and labor....not bad...it was leakin and i mud ride a lot and didnt want my gears to start rustin out
