Hello everyone. I'm new to the forum. I'm looking for an older Ranger 4X4, around 1993-1997. I like that body style (and price) best. Anything to watch out for, or look for? It seems as though most of the 4X4's have the 4.0 liter engine. The 3.0 appears to have similar horsepower, but I'm assuming the 4.0 has more torque. Is one engine is more reliable? I've also heard rumors about some years having problems with the 4 wheel drive system. Is that true, and if so, which years seem to be affected? Other than that, everything I've heard about the Rangers has been great. So I'm headed down this road. Thanks for any advice you can give!

Keep in mind that every vehicle is an individual. Look for the normal things like service record etc. Your intended use of the truck is probably the most important factor in choosing one truck over another.
I have a 97 2.3 5spd. My intended purpose was to have an economy car with a really big trunk.
My truck has given me no problems at all for 6 years. Others have problems right from the beginning.
Happy truck shopping!
