Instrument cluster lighting "tubes"

Does anyone have a fix for these "light tubes" from inside the cluster? Mine disintegrated so I got another cluster off ebay and the tube I needed just about fell apart too.

My first thought is colored velom from the craft store.... Of course I have seen red, green, blue and yellow bingo chips there too.... It's one of those things most around here get creative with... But one of the other members may have just the right cure, if you wait a while.

Are you referring to the cardboard tube, the plastic lens, or both? What, BTW, is velom? Googled it and came up empty.

Sorry, Velum is what I've heard it refered to... and never gave it any thoughts. The thin transparent plastic sheets, teachers would place onto the overhead projector in school. Sometimes pre printed with educational info, sometimes written on with dry erase markers. I know it is usually available in craft and some office supply stores. Clear and in some colors. As for the cardboard tubes, Craft Stores!

Since overhead projectors are vintage junk now, the plastic sheeting is probably the same way!

Dodgy -would you mind posting the outside diameter and length of those tubes? Have you got a micrometer?. Small diameter cardboard tubing can be purchased, and I’d buy some, and send some on to you. You’re in the Bay Area, no? I’m down there at least one long weekend a month usually, pestering the kids/grandkids.

For the lenses (green and blue), try getting some notebook tabs with the colored sleeves for the labels. Used these on mine and they worked pretty well.

OK, thought I'd share my solution. I did find some that were suitable for mid 50's Chevys but on talking with the vendor, he said they wouldn't work. I managed to salvage some usable tubes out of the second cluster I bought off ebay. I then got some of
these gel light filters these gel light filters
off Amazon. At least that's what I think they're called in the lighting world. Maybe that's what was referred to above as Velums? Anyway, I cut a circular piece out of each color and with a few small drops of glue, stuck it to the back of the plate where the tube meets it. I noticed that the originals had a black sealing-like substance where they were sealed up against the plate piece. So I found a suitable-sized O-Ring and put it on the tube just proud of the end, so when it was all mounted up hopefully it'd seal up against the lens/plate arrangement. Put it all together and it works GREAT. Anyway here are some pics in case my half-assed attempt at explaining myself didn't come across.
