I'm looking for a set of exhaust split manifolds fir a 1985 4.9l. I searched but only found the 1 piece manifold. I called Dorman and they don't make a split manifold for the 1985. They said the set they do make won't fit because of a change in the head. I have a brand new Headman Header, but I don't want to use it. Does anyone have any info on split exhaust manifolds fir a 1985 4.9l? Any help would be greatly appreciated, ty
I have a set. I believe they're off of an '87 but they're all pretty much the same up to 96(?). I had planned to use the two I have on a '79 4.9 (but went with a 302). Mine have O2 sensor holes which can be plugged with a part from Wagner (available on Amazon) and a threaded pipe plug (any hardware or home improvement store). LMK if you're interested.
Tnx Bronco, that's what I thought to, but Dirman said there was a chance so the 87 split manifolds they make would not fit my 85 4.9l. So anything up to 96 split manifold will work?
Lee I sent you a PM with the answer but will post here if others come across this post.
Dorman said of the 87 to 96 exh manifolds only fitting the 87-96 heads is wrong but when they look up EFI EXH manifolds it only list the years because that is what they came on.
We had a great retired parts man as a member that could find or know and parts numbers for anything but he only knew what that part fit as that is what the book said it fit.
Now hot roders are a whole different breed and know what crosses over to other makes & models. Or close enough to make work / fit
That is why we know the EFI EXH manifolds from the 87-96 EFI motors fit non-EFI 300 motors and the 240 as the head fits the 300 blocks.
So the heads and not different for ther 240 / 300 motors.
If using the EFI EXH manifolds with any intake you need to place the manifolds on a flat surface and make sure the clamping points are even.
If not even it may leak and may break the manifold (intake?).
If you run the EFI manifolds you will need to deal with choke and intake heating.
I have answered posts on the choke & intake heating

Not to create any confusion, but the receipt I got from the yard, that sold the manifolds to me, says they fit 1987-94 4.9 engines. I'm not sure if that's correct or not. Could be 1987-96 as stated above.

It would be from when they started EFI on the 300 motors till the end, thought that was 96?
The yard was just like Dorman, book says this and that is what we go by.
We all know the LS motor fits a lot of different makes & models so if you want to them and said "I need a LS for a 66 Nova what do you think they would say
I dont know if they still have "Hollander inter change books" or on line but that may show the heads from the 240 / 300 all inter change to the end of the 300 motor and that would prove the EFI manifolds would fit before the 87 model year. https://www.google.com/search?q=holl...hrome&ie=UTF-8
Then again we know they fit pre 87 as I and others have done this swap.

The Ford 300 inline-six engine was last used in trucks from 1964 to 1996. In 1996, Ford stopped producing the 300, making it the last inline-six gasoline engine offered in a Ford car or light truck in North America.

So, it's distinctly possible that the yard is wrong (or their data source is wrong). It wouldn't make sense for Ford to make something different for 1995-96. That said, we've seen stranger things.
