Hard Starting After Filter Change
Loveland Ford replaced the lower water separator and fuel filter. Now when the truck sits for a spell, it cranks for a couple seconds before it will start. I'm assuming the system isn't holding pressure over time. Could this be related the the fuel filter changes? Anything I can check before I take it back to Loveland Ford?
there is a ford video somewhere that shows how to start a push. Button diesel.
the push button diesel does not start the same way a push button gas vehicle does.
also, my truck was starting sluggish so I torqued the battery clamp nuts and all the. It’s for wires that attach to the battery clamps. Starts fine now. I think I torqued to 40 inch pounds.
Ford service at it's finest; not.
1.) Returned truck to the service department to check the fitment of the lower filter. Result:
Ford: "Your passenger battery is getting close to replacement and your drivers side battery terminals are loose."
Me: "Did you check the filter fitment?"
Ford: "Yes, it's fine".
Ford then schedules me for a battery clamp replacement. I say OK, but can you re-check the bottom filter. I take the truck in for the third time. They call me to explain the lower filter was put on incorrectly, and they've fixed it; no charge. But to replace the battery cable clamp, they need to keep the truck for another day and have me pay $252.00 because they don't have one in stock.
I complain and ask how we go from check the filter fitment to electrical system diagnoses. Ford returned the truck; no charge, no battery cable clamp and as of this morning after sitting overnight, still hard starting. I guess in some sense, that is five star service. They did provide me with Uber rides to and from the dealership.
I'll buy a new set of OEM filters and have somebody else install them in a couple weeks, since we're towing our rig from Colorado to North Carolina.

Once started, it ill restart normally. It's only when it sits overnight that it takes 3-4 seconds to start. I'll take a longer drive today, and if it persists, I'll take it back to the dealer.
The lift pump cycling should purge any trapped air in your primary fuel filter/water separator. You could have a shop use an OBDII scanner to monitor the fuel pressures in the system.
Factory fuel filter/water separator installed. Problem gone. Batteries gave a low voltage fault after sitting in 20 degree weather for a few days. I'll round up a couple new ones when we get back to Colorado.
