Fuel Filter Change interval

OK I need opinions. I have installed a Baldwin 1212 fuel filter pre pump and am planning on changing it at 6 month intervals (recommended 1year but I like overkill). Now as far as the OEM filter can it go this long?

Do I need to change the OEM Fuel filter:

1. When I change the Baldwn
2. Every other Baldwin Change
3. 10K like the manual states
4. Ditch the OEM and depend on the Baldwin

If the new Baldwin is finer filtering media than the stock engine-mounted filter, i see no real reason to change the stock filter other than it maybe decomposing. Fact is that if you have a finer filter before the main filter, all that is doing is causing a restriction to the fuel, and it's not filtering anything, because the fuel has already been strained cleaner than what the filter will stop. A possibility could be it stopping gunk that comes out of the pump, if that is possible. If you are doing a Regulated Return fuel system eventually, you could remove the filter bowl like i did. I would say change the baldwin filter every 15,000 miles and the engine mounted filter annually, if you like overkill.

I change my pre pump filter and the stock one at the same intervals ( about every 15k miles). No problems. Have been lucky and there has never been any water in my fuel, when drained. I cleaned the filter bowl when I got the truck at 43k miles and not found anything in it since.

I'll have to re-read but i think i remember the micron rating on the baldwin being half that of the OEM and thats kinda what i was thinking with option 4 is doing a reg return and elimiante the bowl or eliminate the filter in the bowl and just use it as a reservoir
