4.9 engine oil leak
thought i had a leaking rear main seal, now i'm not so sure.
looks more likely to be the oil pan gasket and it looks like maybe this can be done with the engine still in the truck ? remove engine mounts and raise engine a bit for more room to work ?
there's also a slight hope that it's just the oil pressure switch ... the plastic housing spins independently of the metal body of the switch ... is this normal ? if not normal, would it leak there ?
thanks in advance,
joe
Chances are, you are just spinning the heat shield on the oil pressure switch
If the old metal bell type, and it spins, then for sure replace it
Those pan gaskets get pushed out of position and they then leak
Usually, you can visually see the silicone pan gasket get squalked out around the pan
Pull the sender wire and unscrew that grey? plastic cap
See if there is any oil under that cap (heat shield)
If it is dry, the sender is okay I would say
can you confirm that the oil pan gasket can be done without actually pulling the engine ? i am almost certain that it could, but want to be sure because i have no hoist and dont want to have it half-way done only to find out at that point.
