1975 F250 highboy with the woodgrain horn pad.
Curious if anyone knows if the aftermarket horn pads (black or woodgrain) can have their cover removed to be replaced with my patina woodgrain horn pad?
My pad is perfect but the underlying support structure is broken up. The pad "ends" always catch on my palms on aggressive turns and pull the pad up out of the steering wheel.
My notional plan is to purchase an aftermarket pad assembly and swap out my patinaed pad onto the new aftermarket sub-structure.
Thanks in advance.

No input from the collective brain trust?
I guess its almost a moot point as all the vendors appear to not have the horn pads in stock...
Would still like to know if this idea would work though.
Thanks

So on a 75 you have the smaller style right, where the horn pad fits inside the center of the steering wheel....yes? And you need just the piece that is below the rubber outer piece right? I bet to get just that inner piece you will have to buy a complete repop horn pad. Unless I have a good one in my parts shed.
Rich, your description is accurate.
Appreciate if you can check your parts stash as all junkyards around me have long since purged any vehicle from pre 2010.
I'd be willing to buy the whole repop pad from any vendor IF
1- I get confirmation that I can remove the rubber cover and replace it with my patina one
2- any vendor had stock
Thanks

It looks good from the back side, no cracks or feeling of cracked ends. Do you want me to dig a little deeper and take the outer rubber cover off? I got it as a back up for my 77 so it is in reusable condition to me.
Comes off easy peasy. By hand roll the lip and un hook the 4 little rubber buttons near the middle/center. Use needls nose if you are scared. Lol Then lift it up and change the fold angle of the rubber part, to be opposite of the hard plastic angle. Then just slide it off the ends, one at a time. Reinstalled in reverse order. Look Ma, no cracks. Pm sent.
