Hey All, with an Econoline, mine is a 98, there is an adjustable steering column. I would like to know if there is a way to adjust the column farther UP. The farther up the column goes, the more horizontal the steering wheel would be. Is this possible to go past the factory stop without an extreme effort ?
And, is there any choice on steering wheel style ? There are several other wheels that might be nice.
I don’t know about an adjustable steering column. The tilt option changes the steering wheel angle but the section of column under the dash doesn’t move. How much further you can raise the column is limited by the instrument panel. You might manage a half inch.
Steering wheel choices are limited if you want to use steering wheel controls like for cruise control and have a functioning airbag. I would think that what fits same year F-150 will fit E-150.
Tabijan, where the column is in the dash is fine, I'm hoping to be able to increase the amount of the tilt, specifically. And my cruise control hasn't worked the whole time I've had the truck. I hadn't thought about F-150 wheels. I'll look. DinosaurFan
You are not going to easily make the tilt move more
Even a few degrees will cost thousands re machining and building a tilt collar and related parts
How many of these Ford tilt columns have you had apart or worked on?
You wanting to do that makes me think zero
It's impossible is the short answer
Not saying it cannot be done
If you look at an old Corvette with the tilt and telescope wheel
You start with something like that, and add a second u joint and tilt collar
Maybe hire Elon Musk to do the engineering

Correct---steering columns have limited travel from Ford for a million or more reasons. Sadly you're limited to what Ford offered in the F or E Series---I'm sure the issue of occupant safety during collisions is a huge factor as well. The steering wheel air bag just one example too.
I've used F-Series steering columns from a few years close to my E-Series up to at least 2007, they're almost identical in their superstructure so not much modification is possible just because they're be from another series.
Manic, you are correct, I have never worked on a tilt column in a newer truck. I swapped columns between and F100 and an F 250, but they were '69 & 71, and not tilt. Thats why I asked. DF
Dowe have an exploded view or a schematic of that column anywhere on this site ?
