Alternate backup camera

2021 F350, removed the tailgate, put a slide in camper on. Thought a backup camera would be extra handy with the camper on so bought a camera and harness off Amazon.

Plugged it in, started truck, put it in reverse and "camera not found, see dealer" message on screen.

Plugged the tailgate back in ( just the smaller camera plug) and it worked fine.

So, took the tailgate apart, plugged the new camera into the tailgate harness - nothing.
Next tried the new harness with the original camera - nothing.

So neither the harness nor the camera was the right one. no biggie, Amazon return and refund.

Unless someone has a better idea I'm done with Amazon roulette and going to drop some coin at CameraSource.

I bought a camera from Camera Source that i was able to connect to my center touch screen via the Aux port. Their cameras aren't clear. Mine was blurry, they sent me a new one along with a new cable and still the same. Was told by them the camera is digital and the truck setup is for analog. Had they told me that, i'd of just asked for a refund or cancelled order

You can give these guys a try. they have a camera relocation kit for our trucks. I have their upgraded CHMSL camera on my truck and it is a nice improvement.

Many cameras have either switches or wire loops (to cut) for "options". Some of them are the "type" of video signal
(and/or quality).

Let's invite Camera Source, an FTE Vendor, into this thread for some help and/or insight into this issue of digital vs analog cameras for the Super Duty.

Went through camerasource like the other guys here on my 2019 350xl CCLB.
I have a slide in camper also and wanted a backup camera on the rear of my camper and wanted to still be able to use my stereo screen in the dash for my display, like the regular camera I have on the tailgate.
Been working great for almost 4 years I just gotta remember to plug the camper plug into the tailgate socket when loading up.

On a Super Duty truck that has the 360 surround view system, the tailgate camera is Digital and the AUX camera is analog. The image quality between an analog camera and a digital camera is noticeably different. If you’re comparing the image quality of the AUX camera to your tailgate camera it is apples to oranges. A digital camera will have a clearer image. Due to the different signal types, you can’t connect a digital camera to that AUX connector, only an analog camera will work.
Please contact us directly with any questions. We're happy to help!
