I have a 2020 F350. I backed into something and broke the rear tail lamp. They are not sold without the BLIS radar module (thanks Ford), so it's an $800 assembly. One body shop said it would have to be calibrated. $400 for that. So does a BLIS radar replacement need calibration? Two other body shops said noting about calibration. What say you, auto body and mechanic specialists?
I am neither an auto body or mechanic specialist, but I have swapped tail lights in my SD. Chances are if you still have your broken tail light and you did not cream the light you can swap your blis module from the broken light into the new light and completely avoid calibrating the new module. The module is just held in place with 3 bolts and 2 screws.
If you have to use the new module because your old module is ruined, yes, you'll have to have the module calibrated.
Yeah. That shop also gets $150 diagnostic pre scan and $150 diagnostic post scan. So $700 in scans and calibration. Harsh for an out of pocket repair. Figured this shop was Hollywood.
Picking up on an old thread . . . . . I need to do some very minor body repair just under the tail light. There's no damage at all to the tail light/BLIS but would be much easier if I removed it temporarily while I'm doing the work. One body shop that I talked to said anytime that tail light assy is removed the BLIS needs to be recalibrated. Is that really the case? If I unplug the tail light connector, then re-plug it back in, will the truck know that I messed with it and give me some fault indicator? Thanks!

That body shop is misinformed. No issue unplugging taillight.
