I’m getting ready to have an early 90s hi pinion kingpin dana 60 converted to the snofighter dimensions. I need to locate a steering arm so I can keep factory steering. I did locate a steering arm from a 1975 closed knuckle Dana 60 it looks like it would work. Does anyone have any input, or willing to sell me a snofighter steering arm? The pictures are of the early Dana 60 steering arm.
The 78-79 steering arm is straight and on center of the mounting block. It has a bolt on grease cap for the KP. I found this image.
Mine has the number 620084E cast in it but i couldn't find anything on it with a Google search. Ebay is probably the best place to find an original. You might be able to find something aftermarket that might work? Maybe try asking in the off road area.
I have a 79 dana 44 in the truck now yes it is lifted and have all the nessesary parts I have researched this and i know what they look like. The drag link is adjustable so a little offset shouldnt be a problem After all, the truck wouldve came stock with the older arm if it had the earlier d60.
Just a FYI that some or all 1980 and up Dana 60's had cross over steering not the 78-79 push pull style. How are you converting the front springs to match the 36 1/2 " 80 up spring CL not 31 1/2 " CL width for the 78-79 springs? Looks like the arm will bolt up from a 78-79 axle just need to see if there are any issues with the over all length for steering arm working properluy due to frames being different widths between the 78-79 and 80's up trucks. Thats all I have. Good luck and post up photos of how this works out for you.
Because the later dana 60 was cross over is WHY im trying to find a steering arm. I realize the frames are different widths. I am retubing the 1990 kp axle
Might try calling WFO Concepts in Auburn CA, That do alot of coil over conversions and and hugh steer conversions and might have a stock Dana 60 king pin steering arm from a 78-79 Ford ? Talk with Trevor or Alan at 530 268-9494. You might get lucky. Good luck with your project.
Any reason why your not converting to the crossover steering? Follow Crews advice and contact WFO very helpful and knowledgeable guys with quality parts.WFO is who I used when converted to crossover steering on my 78/79 dana 60. If you don't have any luck with WFO I will try to locate the steering arm that I removed for the crossover steering upgrade.
The truck steers great the way it is and i dont wanna change my whole steering system. I already spent alot of money on what i have im not gonna start over. Diesel rookie if you can locate that snofighter arm I’ll buy it thanks
On a stock height Does crossover steering conversion from push/pull require changing to a lifted front suspension or frame modifications, or is it ‘bolt-in’?
I second keeping an eye on ebay or marketplace for the 78/79 KP cap, when changing out parts for crossover, guys will want to sell the older stuff to recoup on the investment. IIRC there was a seller on ebay ‘dana 60 specialist’ who had some odds and ends and could be messaged for parts.
Pretty sure that's not compatible and you need the later bushing type arm not the early bearing type the closed knuckles came with however I'm 90% sure the Chevy arm will bolt up and be angled roughly the same way but won't use the same taper on the tie rod idk though I converted to crossover when I put the 60 in
