I have a 2000 Ford Excursion 6.8 l, I am currently in the process of pulling my front axle on both sides and I'm wondering how do I determine what type of axle I have? My research says that it's a Dana 50 but I have purchased Dana 60 axle parts already ( axles amd wheels hubs), I guess my questions are..... how do I determine which axle I actually have and can the Dana 60 be interchanged with the data 50?
ALL 2000-2005 Excursions were outfitted with a D50 from the factory. None were ever offered with a D60. Some on the internet will claim otherwise. Only the D50 was offerred. The D60 is however a direct swap and has been common for enthusiasts to swap over the last 20yrs since it's an upgrade with zero modification to install. So sometimes people get surprised when a D60 is underneath.
For D50 vs. D60 parts, you can look on Rock Auto and compare part numbers they reference for an Excursion against what you have in hand. Some D60 parts are interchangeable with D50 parts. Some are not. It's hard to definatively tell you what will/won't work. Luckily Rock Auto provides accurate parts lists for your D50 that should be easily cross-referenced.

thanks for the info I really appreciate it I think that I will send back my D60 parts and give me some D50 parts in that way I don't have to find out the hard way
