I've seen a few video's of 4L60's being manually shifted, meaning completely disconnecting from the TCM. Has anyone done this with the E4OD? Will there be a problem with engine control with the transmission disconnected?
I'm thinking the most difficult issue to deal with would be transmission fluid pressure control? I'd like to hear some thoughts on this. Thanks
The gears are shifted by the solenoids. If there is no solenoid operation, it will not shift. The other issue is that the quality of shift is also controlled with electrons and if they are not flowing to that valve, then the transmission will shift harsh.
Could you make use some switches to operate the solenoid? Probably, but the pressure control is a variable current and that is above my pay grade. If you know how to keep electrons going in the right places, it might be just a piece of cake.
I believe Quick4 has an option to use steering wheel controls to manually shift. Cheap to research that.
You can buy a manual controller for the E4OD transmission and there are also people that make transbrake and reverse pattern valve bodies for the transmission. I'd assume that most of them probably just run at a fixed line pressure for off road/drag racing applications.
