I have a 99 f250 superduty v10 with 52000.miles on it my spark plug stripped blew out of the head.I heard this might be a common problem has anybody else had this problem? and know of a fix beside replacing the head.

WOW, who took it out in the first place? I can see it being "common" if the person putting it back in doesn't respect the aluminum heads and puts it in incorrectly. I can't see of another way for it to be "common".
>and know of a fix beside replacing the head.
I believe you can use a heli-coil in aluminum. Special ones, I think...
Whatever you do, can guess that it won't be cheap.
beleive it or not i knew this truck puller who striped out a spark plug on his iron bbc head once. his fix was jb weld fer a pull or two! beleive it or not but it held the 14:1 compression that he was pulling with!:-staun but i wouldnt recomend that procediour.
It does sound as if it wasn't screwed in correctly.
Along with Heli-Coil inserts there are sleeves out there that are threaded on the outside and inside.
I used these about 10yrs. ago on an aluminum escort head.I believe they are still on the market.
Just make sure that if you have the threads repaired with either system that it's done properly.I'll bet heads aren't cheap.
Yes, I just had the same thing happen to my Excursion with a V10 with 48000 miles on it. The spark plug hadn't been changed or removed, but just blew out on its own damaging the head. I have an extended warranty--right now it's in the shop waiting for parts. I am learning it's a fairly common problem;
I just remember that I put a tank of higher octane gas in the week before I had the spark plug blow. Could that have caused it? Twobeer, did you run any higher octane gas in yours?
hi twobeer here
mine had never been touched or removed just blew out. i have no extended warr. i have just learned they have to replace the head and it will be 2300.00. mine was driver side 4th back.we are dealing so far they offered a 15% break not much for a factory defect.
Will these newer engines pass H2o into the combustion chamber??
won't the hydrogen atoms raise the pressure? when remixed with Oxygen
Thus the head design may have a weak area around the plug.
and the end result is what happened
just some food for thought!
By the way what is the compression ratio for the v-10?

How about the year of the truck? Did they not redesign the heads for the higher horsepower engine in 2000? If it is a 2000 and before head problem I wonder if you could switch to the new designed heads. Or perhaps aftermarket? Does it screw up the hood when the spark plug comes out? I hope my spark plugs don't go popping out but if they do I sure wouldn't want to use the same faulty product.
I wonder if this is a case of the engine plant not changing out their drills and or taps before they are too worn?If you have a worn drill or tap when machining aluminum you will "hog" out the hole or threads. If you are oversize in the threads or the drilled hole I can see a problem arising later on.Aluminum just isn't as forgiving when it comes to threaded holes as Iron and steel.
