I had two plugs blow out on my '01 5.4L F250 on separate occasions. The first time I got talked into replacing the head. $2500 for that job. The second time I bought the TimeSert kit brand new for $200 on eBay. I did the job myself in a half hour. It was worth the $200 bucks. Never had a problem since, but if I do, there are 7 more inserts in the tool kit. Excellent directions and illustrations in the kit. Highly recommended.
The Snap On guy stopped by at my mechanic's garage and the mechanic showed him the hole. The mechanic told him that the inserts approved by Ford were different than most, heavier etc. The insert that had the hole burnt out around it had a lip on it. It may have been an approved insert...not sure. The insert still looked seated ad everything but obviously the hole in the head was no good. Has anyone else had a hole burn through next to the insert?
I replaced 2 with the Calvan kit. I looked at the Dorman insert but was not impressed. I did not want to take the chance of having to try to fix a failed Dorman repair. The Calvan kit cost around $250.00 and has easily paid for itself.
I have been following you and all 20 posts that you have are squarely aimed at Ford, I understand you have an ax to grind against Ford .....what is the real reason.
