I have used FORScan on several vehicles. That information comes fro the PCM programming I believe. I do not recall having to select anything.
I got it to work. It found my truck. 1996 F150 5.0L etc,
I have a P0122, P1000 (it says it couldn’t test it), and a P1125. Says it’s the Throttle position sensor (P0122), and the PowerTrain control module (P1125).
Both P0122 and 1125 are related to a faulty TPS. Test it with a meter or o'scope if you have one. P1000 just means all the Monitors are not set to Ready.

could a TPS really cause odd trans shifting though? I feel like that’s too easy haha.
replaced the TPS today, it’s shifting better, but it’s still throwing PCM codes. I may have to check the wires to the pcm from the TPS, is that a super sucky wire trace?
That Duralast TPS will cause you more headaches sooner than later. Use a meter to verify the output voltage key on, engine off. Should be between 0.6 to 1.0 VDC. Perhaps a bit higher for your model year.
Pretty straight forward to trace the wiring in my opinion. Not likely to be your issue given the code.
Tracing the wiring by looking at it is a waste of time. Check the circuit from the PCM to the sensor for continuity, short to power, and short to ground.

why are the duralasts bad? Pretty much all the others I could find were in the ball park of $20 and didn’t have good ratings.
also, I’m not savvy with the codes, but it said it was all pcm codes. It’s the original pcm, so it could be on its way out.
is there a certain TPS you recommend?

Duralast is Autozones house brand. They are notoriously bad quality, whether it is TPS, fuel pumps, alternators, or rubber seals. I learned a decade ago to avoid duralast after their Chinese rubber timing chain cover seal cracked and leaked after 2 years and 100 miles. Their alternators cause pulsing headlights. Their fuel pumps are dead out of the box, their water pumps leak.
Go to rock auto and buy the most expensive TPS you can find. Brand names like Delphi, Delco, Motorcraft, or Carter are the way to go.
