AC issues

I have a 2004 6.0 excursion. I just replaced the vacuum pump. It will draw down and hold vacuum with about 2 minutes of running (if the line has been open). It will continue to hold this without doing any cycling of the pump.
When I start the AC, it will blow out of the vents for about 30 seconds to a minute then switch to the defrost and then the vacuum pump will continue to run continuously. Would there be something in the AC system that is leaking? Hoses seem good from what I can tell. All the posts and videos I've seen show a pump that cannot draw down, or one that draws down and cycles on and off continuously. Any ideas?

Yes, use a hand vacuum pump on the lines from the truck's pump and test it to see if vacuum holds. Also is it 4wd?

It is 4wd. However, it does seem as if the vacuum holds (the pump doesn't run) until I turn the AC on, then it doesn't stop running. I don't have a hand pump, but I could probably borrow one.

If you take the glove box out there are vacuum lines that come from the pump and one feeds back to the hot water valve the other to the recirc door.. You can disconnect that connection and test vacuum.

Next is the fun part, take the radio out, dash bezel off, take the HVAC controls out and behind that, buried in the dash is the vacuum block/control, you can now test the vacuum to the vacuum operated doors.

Sounds complicated...but I'll check it out.
So here is what I discovered tonight. It was cooler and when I got in the excursion and ran the AC at about 72 the AC came out of the vent like it should. Then if I turned the AC down to the lower 60's it would kick up to the vent. It was hot and in the sun when I was playing around with it this afternoon.
So, although my HVAC is auto (not the turn dials), it doesn't say whether or not it is on recirculation. From what I can gather after tonight is that it runs fine unless the system tries to turn on the recirculation.
So maybe that will help in letting me know what I should zero in on.
Thanks for your time!

also…are both ports on pump supposed to be sucking or just the one next to the firewall?

Unless you are on Recirculation only the tube going through the firewall will have suction. Recirculation is supposed to operate the hot water valve and recirc door.
