Crazy thought, and feel free to tell me it's a stupid idea that will never work
Knowing that the vacuum pump on diesels are supposed to pull 20+ inches of vacuum, could I unplug the pump from the rest of the truck, and use it to vacuum down the AC system when I rebuild it later this year?
I'm sure there's probably some technical difference between a brake vacuum pump and an actual AC vacuum pump, but then I'd also feel silly if I spent $100 on a pump only to have someone later on ask why I didn't do like every one else and use the pump on the motor, lol.
it could probably work, but how are you going to keep the system sealed and under vacuum when disconnecting the ump to hook up the refrigerant gauges?
i never even considered using the engine driven pump to evacuate the AC system.
but then again, i have had an AC vacuum pump for over 30 years.
