I'm looking into possibly repowering my N some years down the road, I was curious as to what all engines were available in the N series or what other diesel engines would be a good candidate for a swap. other than the 6BT Cummins. I know the 6BT is a great engine, but I'd rather put something else in its place, I even thought about the 6.9/7.3 IDI I'm just not wanting to reinvent engine mounts if that makes any sense, I don't mind moving the rear cross member if needed but do not want to have to build engine mounts to the truck. Wanting it to look almost factory.
you probably want to get the engine and transmission together .you will probably need a diesel friendly rear gear ratio .find a donor truck that has most of the drive train and other parts you will need
That really didn't help me out much, I have an 83 f700 with an 8.2 detroit that I'm gonna get the running gear out of. It'll take my highway gear from a 6.50ish to a 5.50ish, and also give me 10 lug bud wheels with hydraulic brakes. I'd have to go back and look at the decode for that info.
Just trying to find out what was availble and what would be easiest.
