i just had my C3TE 352 heads sent to arnold motors to get new seets put in them, spendy, but they were the only heads i had that were 4v heads and the heads off the 390 were stock 2v the 352 heads have a lot bigger ports in them and match the 4v intake for it, i think after i port the heads they will be fine on my 390.
I have heard that the smaller port heads are better for bottom end i.e. (pickups). Besides the trick factory heads like high riser, medium riser, and tunnel port, I wonder if there is any difference between an FE that came from the factory with a 4 barrel intake and one that came with a 2-barrel intake? I heard that the bigger port heads kinda kill the bottem end?, I would think that that would maybe hold true on a lower compression stock motor, but for something that has been modified a little I would think they would be better.

There's no difference between 4bbl and 2 bbl heads on an FE. The heads you're referring to with the "small" ports aren't really smaller. These heads have medium riser ports, which have the floors raised and they're wider than the lowriser ports. I've measured both and your "smaller" ports actually have a little more volume. The bottom 1/4 inch in the lowriser style ports is actually wasted space, the floor jumps up just inside the opening. If the intake I was using had the "taller" lowriser ports, then I'd use a lowriser style head, but otherwise, I'd stick with the later "small" port head.
well my intake matches the heads so im not going to use the heads that dont match the intake, even if they do have more volume it cant make much difference but thanks for the info.
I obtained a medium rise edelbrock 4barrel intake for an FE motor. For stock heads would this be fine or should I use a factory 4barrel intake. Is there going to be that much difference other than weight?
i believe it would be fine i dont know why not, and it will be better than the stock 4 barrell also make sure the ports on the intake match the heads, good luck

Depends on which Edelbrock intake you've got. The Performer 390 is basically an aluminum version of the factory iron intake, performance will be close to if not the same as an iron intake, just weighs about 50 lbs less. The Performer RPM and the older F427 are performance wise the same as the 427MR/428PI factory aluminum intake ( 428CJ iron intake also)
