My 1977 F250 351M was last run 6 years ago. The midship tank was replaced. I went ahead and took off the top of the carburetor (which is some remanufactured aftermarket, they threw away the OEM one, booo). The bowl was empty and didn't have any varnish in it. I put in a few gallons of gas in the tank, and let it sit for a few days, then I sucked it all out with a pump. I have fresh fuel in it and a brand new fuel pump. After a few cranks, she fired right up. Doesn't run great, and bogs when you give it gas and I have not adjusted anything. Anyway, I was wondering if it would be prudent to add a fuel system cleaner to clean whatever small deposits are in the carb or fuel system, if anything? It may not be necessary. With todays fuels they are all self cleaning if you buy reputable stuff. Just wanted an opinion.
I would rebuild the carburetor. After sitting for that long, I'm sure it needs it. I would also replace the fuel filter. Are you still running points in the ignition? Check them for corrosion.

I’d rebuild it but I don’t know what it is. It’s aftermarket. I’d prefer to replace it with something better and more robust that is known. Here are some pics.
Looks like a Motorcraft 2150. Your local auto parts store should have a rebuild kit. If not, you can get one from RockAuto.com or any number of other internet sources.

X2 what he said.
If you are looking for a different carb, a Holley 2300 v1 is a bolt on, it is half a Holley v4 carb and uses all the same parts just half of them.
It comes in a 350 CFM and a 500 CFM I think either will be good for a 351.
I have a 350 CFM on a 304 AMC in place of the Motorcraft and runs great after a little tuning of pump squirt nozzle and power valve adjustment.

I guess since it doesn't say MOTORCRAFT on it, I assumed it was some knockoff and not actually a 2150. It is clearly a reman, but it seems to be missing stuff that the original would have had like the high idle solenoid stuff. Anyway, I will probably just take it apart and clean it good and see what needs to be rebuilt.

It looks like you have a solenoid for bumping up the idle speed.
What is it you think you are missing?

As to the original question, Seafoam is considered the best fuel system cleaner. but I'm not sure what it would do to a recycled bubblegum Chinese carburetor.
Usually the idle solenoid is to prevent dieseling after shutdown. one revolution backwards can trash a smog pump. sometimes it's for the A/C. I didn't remember my '79's having them but maybe they did. in any event you don't need them unless you're still running the pump.
The solenoid is not plugged in and I don't know where it was plugged in. The connector is there. Not worried about destroying the carb. I'd love to have a reason to put a Holley 2300 on it. I like quality, but I want to get it sort of half *** running and let it run for a while to make sure I don't have any other engine problems. If I do, and they require a rebuild, then Smeding Performance will be employed to get that taken care of with a 427 Windsor. Not going to rebuild a 351.
Some of you guys that are stuck with old 2V's or junk Chinese knock offs should consider putting a smaller 4160 on especially if you're ever considering going to a 4v in the future. the 2x4 adapters work perfectly fine for now and if you ever put a 4v manifold on you have the carb for it .
If a accelerator pump diaphragm is cracked or if the power valve was blown by age and / or backfire pulse, no cleaner is gonna help. A rebuild is in order.
IN my picture, the idle stop solenoid has been disconnected. Looks like a single wire plug. Where does this wire plug in?
EDIT - FOUND IT! It still works. Why would they not hook that up and make adjustments? Anyway, I have a rebuild kit for the carb on order. Should be in tomorrow.
Fuel is leaking out the weephole in the accelerator pump, so, that diaphragm, while not awful, does have a leak.

Come to think on it, I think I did that very thing. I know it was a stock 2bbl when bought in May 1986, but the carb needed work, and I had this Holley already, so a Mr. Gasket adapter was used for a few months, then I think maybe was following Spring in 1987 I did the intake as I did the cam. You are right, it did just fine.
