Can't Wait
I just ordered a 2004 F-150 FX4. I could not believe they could not find a Screw around the area. Now I have to wait 10-12 weeks, the dealer says. That is rediculous.
I guess I am just venting steam. I am giving up my 2000 Ranger
for it.
How long did you guys wait for your orders to come through?
Is there any way I can find out info of when the actual date will be?
Screw FX4 spec's:
18 in tires
3.73 limited slip
trailor package
deluxe mirrors
power privacy window
5.4L Triton
captains chairs
The long part of the wait was for mine to get scheduled. Look at chasparham's truck, it was built in 4 weeks, mine didn't even get scheduled for 6 weeks.....
Scheduling the build date depends on your dealer, what you ordered etc etc. The take home message is that you can expect to wait 4-12 weeks.
My sales lady just called. My truck came in Monday. She said she called me all day at work today but I was not in my office. I had a busy day. I am going to be parked on their door when they open at 9:00 AM!!! I'LL HAVE SOME PICS POSTED BY THE WEEKEND!!!!

Looking at this thread I see a lot of confusion by people who are trying to figure out when their truck is coming in by comparing when others got theirs. It doesn't work that way!
Let me try and clear up a few things for everyone. The following factors affect the time it takes from ordering your new F-150 to it showing up on the dealer's lot.
1. Dealers get allocations to use for ordering their inventory. In 2004 F-150s the allocations are broken down by body style (i.e. reg, supercab, and supercrew). These allocations are based on what is in the order bank and already delivered to the dealer (i.e. stock units). A particular dealer might be allocated a certain number allocations for each body style in each week of production.
2. Allocations have traditionally been based how many vehicles the dealership sells. A small dealer is not going to have the same number of allocations a larger higher volume dealer will have.
3. Based on the number of particular vehicle/body style allocations used, a newly submitted order (even a sold one), might have to wait for an allocation to come up so the order can be "submitted to plant". It's up to the dealer to ensure that the sold unit is ordered with a "priority number high enough to get it built over a stock order in the system. Traditionally sold units have priority over a stock unit with the same priority number.
4. When the order status is changed to "submitted to plant", there's usually a build week date annotated in the order bank shortly after. That's the week the truck is scheduled to be built. Another factor that can affect when the truck is built is when components are "on constraint". That means that a particular option is low in supply and a unit in the order process might have to sit on hold until that particular component is available.
5. When I ordered my 04 SuperCrew Lariet the chrome tube sidesteps were on constraint. That held up my truck (which was a sold unit) being built quicker. I opted to go ahead and get a stock unit that was coming in 3 weeks ahead of my truck's build date. The stock truck had the black plastic style running boards on it. Only difference.
6. I've seen vehicles take months to get built for items as simple as a paint color. I remember a Chevy Silverado ordered a few years back that took 5 months to get because it was ordered in black. Chevy had a problem with black paint at that time. If the customer had opted for a different color, he would have gotten the truck 3 months sooner.
Bottom line here is that your local dealer is the best point of contact for inquiring about the status of your ordered truck. It takes about 3 days to show the truck as produced in the system after the build week date. Depending on where it's shipped from the factory, it's put on trains or car carriers. Kansas City is the only plant currently building the SuperCrews. The Norfolk plant does not handle SuperCrews right now. The Dearborn plant will start building F-150s sometime in 2004.
Hope this info helps. Hang in there! It will be worth the wait!
