any ideas why? i always have to clean the passenger side battery ground because it accumulates a bluish white powder on it. any known things to check? voltage on the sct shows fine, although i cant remember the exact number at the moment. just seems odd.
From my experience, it seems that some brands of wet cell batteries tend to do it and others don't as much. I use AGM batteries now, so no issues there.
@TooManyToys. uses Walmart batteries and has not had it happen to him with that choice.
You haven't noticed the battery getting overly hot have you?
IMO, it isn't something I would like to put up with.
You can have a gap in the case where it surrounds the post and it wicks into a he terminals. For the last few years Ford has had a bad issue with the assembly line batteries like this. But it can happen with any brand.
I’ve not had this issue with the Walmarts I’ve been buying since 2014. I have 12 batteries in vehicles, tractors, equipment.

i dont really make a habit of feeling my batteries for heat, but i guess maybe i should. these are duracell branded dekas and the other one doesnt do it at all. i just give it a wipe maybe at oil changes or if i have a cable off for some reason.

Felt battery pads help slow the issue.
Regularly, as in about once a month, bubble bath with long soft brush and lots of water after helps.
Regularly apply a good coating of a proper electrical grease such as NO-OX-ID after washing and let it ooooz into the connectors and into the felt pads helps. And yes it looks bad and is sticky, live with it.
But once the battery vents and gets into the clamps and cable there is only one fix. Replace everything affected... That is battery and cable.
Once in the cable, there is no stopping or patching the problem. Prevention is best.
Maybe in the cable, maybe not. The terminal soaking in baking soda and water (Alkaline) for a few would correct the terminal. I'd replace the battery rather than screw with it every month or so.
I've had Walmart's Everstart Maxx batteries since October 2022. Sorry to report mine have the same problem, and it's been going on for many months. Same with the Everstart Maxx in my wife's Tundra, and hers is only 8 months old. I wonder if it's the extreme heat we get down here in TX that causes the case to fail.
I'll be spending the extra $100 on AGM's next time around.
I just called the 888 number listed on Walmart's website for warranty info. They said the corrosion is caused by over or under tightening of the terminals to the post, which causes micro cracks in the case, and is not covered under warranty. The things that make you say hmmmm.....
