total freedom

ive always told myself if the crap really hits the fan, im going wild. what do i mean??

find a nice spot about 80 miles ( minimum ) into the woods, build a tiny little one room log house, trap, hunt, and fish for your meals.

to have total freedom i could sacrifice the TV's and cell-phones, not that i wouldnt miss them, but you obviously need to do without some luxeries.

take a few rifles, couple thousand rounds of ammo, lots of fishing string and some hooks, a good fillet and butcher knife, maybe some salt to dry out the meat, some camoflauge tarps... a fishing spear, matches or flint rock- a few books to keep you occupied...

a few things youd GET to sacrifice- fear of terrorism, bills, dept, working 9-5, arguing with neighboors, dealing with city officials...

im sure your family wont visit much; if at all... no hot showers, no microwave meals, and so on...

anyone ever wish you could do that??

OR... can a person legally live on state land like that?

i know youre suppose to have hunting / fishing licenses, and the state likes their property taxes...

anyone have some ideas??

You mean no computer, no DSL, no automatic electronic climate control or heated seats in the Town Car? No Town Car?

I'll pass. My idea of "roughing it" is slow room service........

Sounds like a good idae, I've thought about that myself. Bus it seems at eh reate of construction these days, you'd be lucky to get a 1/2 mile away from civilazation. Now if we could only grow gills...

Within the US is a vast area of untapped beauty. I know of 15 places where I could go hide, in various states, dependent on where I am when the need arises. All have adequate water, shelter or material for construction, adequate wild life, and isolated. I have had one area of readiness for the last ten years, and NOBODY has been to it, in that time. I leave objects unattractive to animals, but irresistible to humans, and one place has not been touched in 10 years, and it is the best I got... From here it would take a while to get to, so I hope I have a couple of days notice, and sufficient fuel. My truck has a range of 800 miles, and an extra 700 in cans... so I can get there in one trip, with stops only to transfer fuel. If no warning, I have one within a days walk of my land here, that has had one person go there in 3 years, other than my 10 visits to check. (they didn't touch anything, just left an excrement pile, with paper... )

I'm with you.

I need a heads up on transpo issues and local power creation posibilities.

We can do it.

We should buy it.

I am waiting for the opportunity, and when I have recovered from the fraud a previous mythical did upon me, I will be able to afford it. My expertise on such survival is total.. sounds like bragging, but it aint - I was trained well, and have proved my ability often. Power is something that I have considered, come up with a few interesting alternatives - they are all doable with some better than others.

I do not consider my flight into the nowhere to be an if situation, but when. Current conditions are declining, socially, so soon, this old bugger will vanish, and never be heard of again. I will survive, as always, eating well, and blending in..

As i was reading your letter of resignation\indignation from our society Theo it occured to me that the best geographical area to inhabit would be in the eastern usa. For two obvious reasons1) the forest in the eastern US is much more dense for the most part and, (2) forest fires don't seem to be a problem probably because of adequate rainfall. I'm thinking specifically here of Mr. Eric Rudolph and his demonstrated ability to remain incognito for something like 5 years. There would probably be plenty of game available as well. Just my random thoughts, good luck with your expedition , s.kuteman

Too many silly gun laws in the north eastern states, and too hot and humid in the south eastern ones. The best places of all are where the desert joins the mountains... nothing to burn on one side, and game aplenty on the other.

ADEQUATE rainfall?! That has to be the understatement of the year! All it did was RAIN yesterday, and today it hasn't stopped snowing. If I could bottle this stuff and sell it to Arizona, I'd be a zillionaire in no time!

I know what you're saying. I have a quarter of a state available for this purpose. Upstate NY. It'd only be a few hour drive for me, and the Adirondack Park is so big, they'd never find me if I didn't want them to.

The other alternative is, just cut the power line at the house, fire up the generator, put up a big fence, and be done.

But, there's still a few people I can tolerate on this planet. Once they annoy me, though, it's off in the woods I go. here, fishey, fishey....
