69 E100 shift linkage for toploader

Hi all,
I've been playing with various projects on my E100 for a year or so (mostly just moving it back and forth across the street to avoid tickets.) I just resumed playing around with the shift linkage which I stopped playing with out of frustration a few months ago. I think I've finally got it all adjusted so it goes into and out of all the gears nicely, And this sounds so triivial but I can't find a clip that holds the rod to the trans selector successfully. The new bushings are really fat so I have to really squeeze to get any kind of clip in place and so far all of them (especially on the 2/3 lever for some reason) pop off. What kind of clips have worked for anyone that's done their bushings and adjustments? I've tried the type in the top photo, and I tried the type that came with the bushings that slide backwards into a narrower slot if you catch my drift. I'm thinking maybe the push nut type in the bottom picture? Any advice?
Scott

I use the round spring loaded ones that keep constant pressure on the linkage
Look up the factory clips for a 69 Mustang or Camaro
Ford did use the same clips I have on My 68 Camaro now
The Camaro stuff is everywhere cheap
Maybe order those
That said, I have been stacking washers and using conventional Cotter pins for years
Those spring clips can pop off if you get gear pounding real hard
On my Boss 302, I have cotter pins and washers

Thanks a lot. Strange but I don't see a hole through the transmission end of the linkage rod for a cotter pin to go through. Just a groove cut all the way around for a slide-on clip of some sort. I'll check out the Camaro ones. Also, since i posted this question I'm remembering that when I put the new rubber bushings in I noticed they are really thick so that there really is a lot of pressure pushing against whatever clip I've tried. I'm wondering if that's the problem. Maybe I need to trim those suckers a little bit. Anyway, thanks so much for weighing in. I appreciate it.

I drill my own 1/8 inch holes for cotter pins where I need them
Drilled another one the other dat on a brake pin for my 68 Camaro
I installed disc brakes and a booster
The pin had to be replaced and had a cheesy China clip
Now has a couple of washers and a cotter pin.
I figure it is safer, more robust
Might be a bit hard to remove your linkage pieces to drill them on a drill press
Cars are easy, your van column shift not so much, probably worth it anyway to rid yourself of some slop
