Was my advice even close?
So the other day, I got the first code below on my 6.0 van the other day, so I did about 30 minutes of reading and videos.
Fast forward to today. I was at a truck stop in the near nowhere South Dakota getting diesel. when I was wrapping up, I noticed a guy with an older Ford Truck l who looked like he was having issues. I went over and asked if he needed help. He said he had a CEL, low power, and didn't seem to have boost. I had my phone with FORScan and my OBDLink MX, so I scanned it. It turns out to be a 2006 with a 6.0 liter. Below are the two DTCs that would make sense to affect what he explained.
Code: P0404 - EGR valve position control performance or range fault
Status:
- DTC Present at Time of Request
- Malfunction Indicator Lamp is On for this DTC
Module: Powertrain Control Module
Diagnostic Trouble Code details
EGR valve position control performance or range fault
This DTC may be caused by :
Open Circuit
Short circuit to ground or battery
Damaged or worn vacuum hose
EGR valve assembly
Blocked hoses / filter / valves
Faulty or damaged PCM.
Code: P1335 - EGR Position Sensor Minimum Stop Performance Status: - DTC Present at Time of Request - Malfunction Indicator Lamp is On for this DTC Module: Powertrain Control Module
I told him my first thought would be to clean or replace the the EGR valve.
Unfortunately, we had to hit the road, so not sure how it came out. So you think I was in the ball park?
