Installed my starter and I'm not happy with it. Seems the gear rotates into a coil spring on the shaft but it tends to stay either close or into the ring gear just by hand and I have to flip it back with my finger towards the I guess you call it the bendix on the end of the shaft. Seems to me the spring should put tension on it to keep it away from the ring gear. I haven't put power to it and I've never used it yet. Am I just figuring this wrong?
I don't believe the tiny thin spring fully returns the gear itself... it relies on the engine spinning faster than the starter to kick it back. I wouldn't worry as long as it functions.
Thanks. I was worried it would damage the new ring gear but I dint see any damage to the starter gear so I guess I'll give it a try when I finally get all the plumbing in.....and wiring. Taking longer than I planned.
