With most diaphragm clutches you're supposed to remove the assist spring under the dash to offset the softer pedal.
I'm not sure one is really better than the other. the biggest thing I can see is the diaphragm clutches usually use centrifugal weights to increase pressure, that's better for high RPM applications like a car than for a low-speed heavy pull a pickup.
Which ever style you choose buy a NEW CLUTCH an not a reman.
I can just about guarantee a reman will chatter.
I prefer new, Luke clutches are my favorite.
