I have to replace my harmonic balancer, I rented a tool to pull it from autozone and I heard to just leave the cone off and thread it directly into the crank shaft. I did that and it screwed up the threads. Chased the threads and got the bolt back in. What am I missing? Is something supposed to go in the crankshaft hole to stop it from Going in the threads and screwing them up? Can I just take the crank bolt out take off washer and press against bolt? Any help Is appreciated.
Usually, you can remove the washer, thread the bolt all the way in and press against the head of the bolt. Just make sure it clears the balancer as you remove it.
