Hello,
I've read this forum for a long time but this is my first time posting, I am looking for some advice to lower egts on my e99 with a zf6, it currently has a ts 6 position tuner s and b intake and a full 4in turboback, towing my 16k Fifth Wheel I've been having a hard time keeping egts down when in od even on flat ground, pretty much unless I stay in 4th and at about 2500 rpms the egts shoot straight over 1250,
things I have planned
Kc balanced assembly since my compressor wheel has some nicks due to a hole in the turbo inlet tube
hydra tuner but looking for recommendations for tunes
aem meth injection kit I have lying around from old projects
switching to l99 plenums and 3in boots
Putting the felpro 8194 gaskets on the up-pipes I don't see alot of soot right now but while the turbos out,
will be doing a boost leak test when the new turbo inlet arrives tommrow and riff raff boots if they are leaking
Thank you in advance
Jacob
I'd go for things that give it more air. i e late model plenums and a better turbo. Fixing up pipe leaks can only help too so a set of bellowed up pipes during that upgrade would be in order. 16K is a heavy trailer and I'd have my tires as hard as practicable to help it roll. Just my thoughts, others might have more and better ideas.
As mentioned, boost leak pressure test as the first step.
Skip the gaskets on factory uppipes. You can buy bellowed pipes for $100 and they are a million times better. Those old pipes won’t seal and even if they do it won’t be for long. Leaking exhaust drive pressure is an often overlooked source of high EGT and poor performance.
Is the factory cat still in place? After 25 years it's a fair chance it would be restricting exhaust. Depending where you live you may be able to delete it all together.
Another thing that came to mind is the tuning. Do you have equipment to monitor your engine? I forget what the threshold is but FIPW that's too high will cause problems with EGTs.
Thank you all for the replies,
I got the new inlet installed today and did a boost leak test, just about all of my boots are leaking including the plenum boots,
Can I switch to 99.5 plenums if I use 3in boots?
The tires are 33s and I have the stock 3.73 gearing so I am alittle under geared, and there is no cat truck has a 4in straight pipe back from the turbo
Mark, I saw in your signature you have a van turbo on your e99, what did you have to change to make that fit?
I should be able to monitor FIPW through forscan I believe but am planning on making the switch to some custom tunes with the hydra tuner anyway,
Do you know where I can find bellowed up pipes for around 100? all I can find for the e99 are about 350-400

Would It be worth my time to do a Kc Balanced assembly to replace my damaged compressor wheel and upgrade the turbine, or just a new turbo all together, I don't plan on upgrading injectors in the future if that matters,
Thanks
Jacob
The KC SXE drop in turbine paired to RiffRaff 4+4 and stock injectors thru 160/0 is quite nice towing heavy. Quiet enough to have a conversation while cruising down the highway.
If you go with Late+ plenums I believe you'll need a late spider for the larger size plenum boots. Once you get everything all leak free you should have much better results with everything being @ 100%

following, seems like we both havesimiliar questions about drop in replacement vs wheels only.
No need for bigger plenums, the stock e99 turbo and plenums fows as much as the late 99 stuff so don't bother.
Check for up pipe leaks, and since you already found boost leaks fix those by either getting new upgraded boots or clean your old boots (if in good shape) another place for a boost leak is the MAP hose, and the driver side IC tube right where it's bent to "clear the powersteering high pressure hose.
Edit: For some reason this Amazon link keeps getting rejected so here's another from a different vendor for the same price and free shipping as well maybe it will stay working.
Getting egt's down is getting more air in. If you have boost and up pipe leaks you're loosing air.
Get the truck into a healthy state of tune first.
I imagine you're running tunes on the truck, are you running too much for towing?
Running tall tires on 3.73s isn't doing you any favors either. More load than necessary, and in general running more rpms helps keep the turbo pushing air to a certain point.
The kc balanced assembly and cranking down the waste gate and fixing any boost or exhaust leaks will make a world of difference. Installed several including my personal truck and it’s been a night and day difference.
