in an attempt to extend the keyfob range to further than quite literally 10 feet from my truck, i seem to have ruined the wireless receiver portion of my bsm. is there any known way to reprogram a replacement with forscan or something so it plays nice with the truck, or is going to the dealer a requirement?
wanted to follow up in case someone else searches or googles a question like this (since no one bothered to respond):
i did not have to do any programming to make the new module work, unless i got very lucky getting a replacement module pulled from a sister truck to mine configured exactly the same it seems that dealer programming is not necessary. all i did was remove the back seat and replace the module, program a new door code and my key fobs, and that was it. didnt have to do anything with the keys/ignition. everything worked as it was, door locks, pats (i dont think the security module is part of the pats system), etc. unfortunately the terrible range is as it was too .
FYI, you're talking about keyless entry. It's not part of any security system per se. It's simply designed to allow use of a push button on the exterior to open the vehicle as opposed to using a key or fob.
