I have a F100 1978 Ranger c6 automatic
I am going to apply BLO but need to prep.
My truck has peeling clear and very old clear on bottom half of truck wondering if I have to remove old faded clear as well as peeling clear? And whats the easiest way to remove the peeling clear? Thanks
Mechanical means will not get the clear off and let it be as faded as the top part. Leaving the clear on will not let the BLO treat it like the faded part. What about chemical paint stripper, just harsh enough to get the clear coat off, but no affect the paint underneath? It might take the clear and the paint underneath with it.
Maybe just use a plastic knife edge scrapper to get the peeling part off, leave the bottom solid condition paint and BLO the top faded part? Use caution when disposing of the BLO soaked rags. They are known to be combustible.

BLO will yellow significantly within a year. I experimented with it with less than desirable outcomes. It can also get tacky and hold dirt. I suggest doing a small test patch.
