64 f250 update

It's been a while and I have good reasons so I just wanted to update.
My 64 f250 has a new seat cover, not upholstery. I was saving for the a.c. As it turns out, a y-block with front cross over exhaust cannot get a.c due to location of the compressor and bracket. So, in the hottest summer on record in Florida, when it's not raining, the humidity is crazy. Did I mention I had a BP of 202/100+? Well, I am still paying for the ambulance ride and follow up tests as I have a damaged (useless) valve. Working part time and wife just retired while having knee replacement surgery. "Never rains, just pours".
All this put some pressure on and so I avoided conversation with anyone as these days, things often get tense. Happy tooling and driving everyone!

As the saying goes, getting old ain't for sissies. Hopefully you and the wife are on the mend.
Not well versed in the y-block but is it possible to eliminate the crossover and go to a more traditional style exhaust? Seems anything's possible nowadays but maybe not that simple. Did y-blocks never have a/c?

Photos, or it never happened.👍 . . . You always wanted a set of those ram horn manifolds, didn’t you? Explain the situation to your wife. Your health demands A/C, but especially those manifolds!

Crossover exhaust

Sanderson makes replacement manifolds which will solve your problem. Or search for a left hand manifold from any Ford vehicle that used a “Y” block. Just block off the front of the right side.
Also any muffler shop should be able to make a tight “U” bend on the left side to clear where the AC compressor is located and connect the left side under the bell housing.

Speedway motors sell Y-Block AC compressor brackets (made by Vintage Air) that look like they’d work with either ram horn manifolds, or headers. I have nothing but good things to say about Sanderson headers, they stand above all the rest - as does their price tag. But I switched from them to ram horns when I had a y-block in a prior truck. I - but mainly the family - did not enjoy the noise from the headers. Ram horns also just happen to be the ultimate in cool for a Y-Block. I personally don’t pay just for “coolness”, but I would not even consider the inelegant “flipped manifold” method of doing away with the crossover pipe. They are the very definition of “kludged ”, and while they work, are an embarrassment IMO.

I agree! Another one of those Ford should have - could have done for pickups as standard equipment, not just for tilt cab trucks. Plenty of room now for AC brackets. Management at Ford "pre Mustang" had a reputation for stubborn ness. Take care of the BP!

Rams horns would be the ultimate but price is hard to justify when I got a stack of med bills to figure out. And yes I did have them in mind before. I even went to a muffler shop and checked on having the pipes run if I went that route. Gotta consider the scary future of November. If I get a buyer for my school bus conversion, I would be clear of the bills and safe to get it done. Wife put it on Facebook so fingers crossed.

My 64 F250 had an aftermarket dealer installed AC when I got it. The original owner had the motor rebuilt in 73 and added some OG large truck Rams.... The other cheaper way would be to eliminate the cross-over pipe and do a kind of "cross under" setup with the exhaust. This was a pretty common thing back in the day. I have that setup on my 64 F100 I think people got tired of getting burned on the cross-over.
