Tailgate repair help

Hi guys
made a boo boo today and not very happy about it.

tailgate got left open and crunched when making a turn with my trailer attached

Only damage appears to be the tailgate itself and the top black trim piece

my question is does anyone know if there is a way to just replace the outer shell? Or do I need a whole new tailgate?
im assuming I can swap all my cameras electronics etc over to the new gate.

any assistance would be greatly appreciated
Depending on cost I may just pay out of pocket and not put through insurance

Did something similar on my now gone 2016, but a little bit worse. Had to replace it. Got a good deal on a replacement from Truck Parts Warehouse, even the correct color.

backed into my 5th wheel hitch at the campsite. $4100 and the entire tailgate had to be replaced.

I’m guessing it had to be repainted as well?
Or were you able to find a painted part?
Any chance you have part numbers?

Find a junkie, they steal tailgates all the time, tell him what you need, he can get you one in the right color even!

Probably find a used one at a salvage yard, www.car-part.com
You might even get yours fixed, doesn't look that bad.

I may end up having to do that.
For whatever reason the tailgate won’t release and open, something else must be bent or possibly the electronic mechanism
The right side locks and tries to open, but the left side will not

Why would you sacrifice your integrity for your mistake?

You're going to have to pay to fix or replace, or leave it as is as it looks perfectly usable with some minor adjustments to the latch. I'd call the phone provided by the first poster. Perhaps you can get a cheap xl tailgate and transfer your platinum accessories to it after a paint match.

You can replace just the shell, in fact, Ford doesn't sell the tailgates as a complete assembly. But, they are not pre painted and expensive new, even just for the shell. A quick search shows that the 23+ tailgate shell is actually cheaper than one for my '19 Lariat.

The most cost effective way would be to find a take off for sale. The biggest issue I see is that yours is a Platinum. Most take offs I've seen are from lower trims. Lower trim tailgates don't have the holes for the applique to clip into. You could probably figure out a way to mount it using double sided tape. I'm sure there are some from wrecked trucks too.

Gotta beat this horse again - Check with a reputable PDR tech before you spend $$ on a new or used one. I've seen more than a couple of those go through my son's PDR shop.

Nah, OP's tailgate damage is too much for PDR, especially up there at the top where the plastic cover snaps on.

had to be painted. No part numbers. I had a ford dealer so the work.

I was hoping for a non-insurance fix. The truck only had 2500 miles, so didnt want a sub-par repair at this point..But that wasnt the case. The Limited panel itself was $1200.
