Lost O/D
2006 Expedition 5.4 3 valve with 179,000 miles. Lost overdrive. Shifts fine from a stop; 1st, 2nd, 3rd then slips when it goes into O/D. Like it’s in neutral. Manually downshift to 3rd and it runs fine. Turn of O/D, it drops a gear and runs fine. No DTC codes. I’ll check fluid level in the morning. First time this happened. Any suggestions? Basically feels like I lost O/D.
A filter and ATF fluid change was on my to do list, would that help? I have a bottle of Motorcraft Friction additive for transmission/ differentials. Would that help??

Thank you for those who replied. It appears I lost 3rd and Overdrive. Added some trans slip stop and the problem still exists. Some YouTube comments have similar issues and stated: “The direct drive clutch drum failed and the splines stripped out and that’s why he lost 3rd and Overdrive”.
Is it worth dropping the pan and replacing servos (and fluid, filter, pan gasket) or just take to a transmission shop and have it properly diagnoses and fixed?

Just dropped the transmission pan on my 2006 Expy 4R75E trans (please correct me if that’s not my transmission). Fluid looks dark, lots of metal shavings, and the original yellow dipstick stopper is is the pan (indicating it’s never been open and serviced at 107,000 miles). I bought 3 servos, filter, and 2 gallons of Mercon V. I’m going install the new servos, filter, and fluid. But I’m probably looking at a rebuild. Anyone know of a good transmission shop in the Tacoma, WA area? thx
Drop the valve body and take a look. Easy fix if servo, just use long screw driver to grab band's anchor and shove back into case. Wedge band with a plastic tool. Reinstall servo with aide of floor jack as the spring in there is pretty beefy.
EDIT -
I would verify the aforementioned. Then 13, 14, and 16 all move without issue.
