I'm at a loss now. Got this f350 from a neighbor, and it's been sitting for 17 years. First oil change put some MMO in the oil to help loosen all the crap up and oil has been changed again. I keep bending pushrods. I'm at to 5 now. I got a set of new ones ordered but afraid they may just get bent. I have been replacing the bent ones wirh old ones that I had. I can push each valve down by hand if I push hard enough, and hot idle oil is around 10psi. And there is always a lot of oil up there when I take the covers off. Any thoughts or ideas? I've noticed all the old ones have some crush on the ends where the ***** are attached, assuming this is from many miles. Could that be why they are bending?
Usually the cause is the valves are stuck in the head. The other possibility is the rocker arm is seizing on the shaft. Have you taken the rockers off the engine? If so did you reinstalled the necked down oil bolt in the correct pedestal so oil is flowing to the rockers?
I would pull the rockers and shaft and disassemble it. Verify that the shaft is still smooth and not worn out. look at to oil holes in the shaft and verify everything is clear.
Also take a hammer and tap all the valves and make sure they all move and snap back right away.

I've checked the rockers multiple times and they rotate very smoothly. I did double check the one bolt since I remembered that from my last FE. And it's in the correct position. I'm thinking it may be time to pull heads and get them cleaned. I already have to do the intake gasket because the galley is leaking.
It's been random as well. Both banks are doing it from multiple cylinders. And I probably have a couple hours running now. After getting done with switching a bent one, it runs quiet and smooth, nearly perfect. Run it around the block and most times get 1 or 2 that are clacking.
A few things come to mind that might cause pushrods to bend.
1) hydraulic valve lifters are gummed up internally such that they can't compress. Or they are stuck in the bore and can't move to follow the camshaft lobe
2) If you're not installing the new ones correctly (sequence of install) or not properly torquing down the rocker arms. FE blocks have a rail the rocker arms slide onto and there is a specific tightening procedure on how to snug that down.
3) rocker arms not torqued to proper spec
4) Loose valve guides
Had another pushrod bend again, replaced and drove a few miles. Clacking again. Think I'll check the valves before the new rods come and see if something is wrong there.
Pulled the intake since I needed to reseal it anyway. Lifters had some circle wear on them. I also noticed before teardown that several pushrods weren't turning at idle. May check the cam and replace lifters while in there. Otherwise they all moved freely and the rockers moved freely. I think it's been narrowed down to valves now. Kinda debating on seeing if I want to try taking manifolds off or just take springs off while heads are on and see how the stems feel.
