This past weekend I had an o-ring go out on the front HPOP line fitting. I have the hose release tool but it was 500 miles away in my shop.
I tried several different methods but what worked perfectly was using 3 1/32" body shims from a Harbor Freight Body Shim Kit. The kit was $10. Nobody in this small town where I was stranded had the hose tool, I know because I asked nearly everyone.
I'll keep the real hose release tool in my truck toolbox from now on but maybe this tidbit of information will help someone out one of these days.
I had installed new hoses last year and it never crossed my mind that I might need that tool in the truck. Lesson learned.

I too, needed that hose release tool, replacing the fuel pump under the truck frame, I have 2 or 3 of them "at home", but I was in Utah 1500 miles "from home"....
many trips 20 miles one way to auto parts stores, finally found one, a friend there crawled under the truck, on the ground, in a hay field, and replaced the fuel pump.
