This may have been answered elsewhere but I couldn't find anything. So hoping I might get a little assistance.
I have a 1999 F250 LD 2 door cab, 5.4L V8 with approx 99,000 miles on it. I'm in the process of changing out the rotted vacuum tubes and trying to pinpoint the rough idle issue (separate problem). The throttle cable has some serious slack in it, approx 2 inches give or take. The OEM part is on backorder with no date in sight of filling. I can't seem to find an aftermarket equivalent and I was hoping this forum could provide good advice or direction. Additionally, there is a place on the throttle body next to the cable for anotherline/cable. This spot is empty. Should it be empty? I've attached a photo of the throttle body.
Thanks in advance
The empty spot should be for cruise control cable. Just a hunch that you have an XL or Work Series trim level and don’t have that option (cruise control).
As far as a throttle cable, hit up a salvage yard for a 5.4 engine. You aren’t finding OEM these days, hence the lack of a fulfillment date.
I can't find that cable anywhere. I have spent hours & even tried looking for different models & engines. WTF lol?!
97 F150, 5.4. 530,000 miles & runs good.
Any ideas guys?
Get a rope and tie it on the throttle, run it down the fender and crack the window lol. Seriously though. try pull a part or whatever local salvage yards you may have., Part locator might be able to help as well.
I sure would not replace it due to a little slack
They are designed with some of that slack
If you replace the cable, you are liable to have the same amount of slack
There might be a couple off ways to eliminate some of the slack
Like bending the bracket that holds the cable end at the throttle body
Or adding a crimp on sleeve to the cable inside at the pedal
For instance
A lead split shot fishing weight crimped on the cable inside should suffice
with above, they are supposed to have slack so the blades can easily close
but if you want to get one try googling 1997 ford f150 5.4 throttle cable, i had close to 50 pop up
