Ok, I'm having a little trouble with the throttle cable on my '88. The clip that attaches the kickdown to the throttle is broken, and the part of the cable, in the pic below, is messed up. Anyone know a good online source for a replacement for either part, or an easy way to fix?
I got lucky enough that when my cable busted there...it still worked. www.autozone.com has replacements instock for cheap. I think mine was about $15. THey may also have the kick down clip. Check locally tho. may be faster.
I'm sort of lucky too, mine still works, but it jams sometimes and the throttle barely opens, plus it sucks that the trans never downshifts when I get on it. I'll check the autoozone here on my lunch break. Thanks.
Ok, I got a cable yesterday from autozone, replaced it, took 10 minutes tops. Now I need to fix the kickdown. The parts guy wanted to call it a detente cable and they don't sell them. I wanted to tell him that it is not a detente cable, and that's why they didn't show it, but I wasn't sure. So what do you guys think?
They are full of it...It is listed as a kick down cable...but not available through Autozone, Checkers, Advance or Napa. Looks like you need to go hunting in a salvage yard. Sorry
I figured as much, all the guys at the local autozone are chebby nuts, so I just let them think chebby thoughts. Any ideas on maybe fixing what I have. There's nothing wrong with the cable, just the little broken plastic piece that holds it to the throttle mechanism.
Superglue? Sorry, I would prolly go to a junk yard for something like that...may find more than 1 and then you could have a couple of spares. Besides, alot of them charge you by how important they think it is, so it may only cost you a few pennies.
