On that note, I now find that I need to use the smaller waterneck with the D8TH radiator. Which waterneck is better, the big one or the little one? What's the difference besides size?
I just look inside the filler neck to see how many rows there are down in there. I can't help on the actual ID numbers. I usually get my radiators recored and the shop will reuse the tanks and brackets. That way it's mostly original.
I think it would be easier to find a hose that fits than find a waterneck with the big thermostat and smaller hose. Or you can just use the original hose and get a bushing to size it down at the radiator. You should be able to find the bushings in a well supplied "Help" section at the parts store.
Neither waterneck is better or worse and the only difference is the size. There were three styles if I remember correctly, big stat/big hose, big stat/little hose and little stat/little hose. The big stat/little hose one is hard to find.
Well, I have both waternecks, big and little. Being as I have a big hose/big thermostat/big neck, I will just use a little hose that fits inside of the big hose to reduce it to size like willowbilly said. Then just double clamp it for saftey. You guys know anything about those radiators?
Hi willowbilly3, thanks for the tip on the hose adaptor. Man, I'm gonna have to check out the "Help" section again next time I'm there. That's one of the best sections the parts stores have come up with imo.
Back in the 80's the only place I ever found those reducer sleves was with new radiators for some chevy pickups. I hoarded them like gold. I am not sure when Help came out with them but last summer I got several cards of them at a swapmeet. There is a vendor that Just dumps huge piles of Help on tarps and you pick through it for $3 a bagful. I bought a lifetime supply of those little critters. I also got several sets of Ford window cranks and other cool stuff. Also, like ceetwarrior says you can use another piece of hose for a bushing, but in some cases the right size is hard to find.
willowbilly, which heater hose goes where? Can you get a picture for me? All the junkyard trucks I've seen have a tee in them. But that's even better if I don't have to use one.
nm, I got it ALL worked out, thanks guys for the help. Also, I found out that my C6TA radiator was a 2-row and I upgraded to a 3-row without knowing until now
