Why bother with Apple Car Play? (sorry Android folks - I don't have a clue how your stuff works)
Without Car Play I can: Sync 4 Nav: Move, pinch and squeeze the screen to get a view I like/want/need. Sync 4 S/XM: See title and artist (I'm not good at remembering titles and artists). Waze on iPhone: Alerts me to traffic hazards, delays, etc., and police (only important as I am not speeding but it helps alert me for the fools that slam on the brakes to get 10 MPH under the speed limit for some reason). I can set a destination (usually if not towing) or not. Garmin: (Only used when towing) Provides all routing info, rest stop info, file stop info, etc.
With Car Play: Maps (Apple or Google or Waze) take up the full screen and you can't move the map around using the Ford touch screen. And you have to tap the screen just to get a plus and minus symbol just to zoom in and out. S/XM - have to use phone and can't see info at a glance
So for me Car Play is utterly useless. Am I missing something? Why are folks gaga over Car Play?
I don't have in vehicle nav, nor do I want it. I understand that it is somewhat better now than it used to be, but my phone has Apple, Google and Waze maps, all for free. Forever. No upcharge in the beginning, no monthly fees, etc... One of my favorite things about ordering a vehicle is that I can say no to the nav option!
I also do not use XM. We have an Apple 1 plan for our family, which gives us Apple Music. I love it, and IMO, it's better than Sirius as I can actually select specific songs and even whole albums if I want. Last time I used XM it was a free option and I just had to pick a station, which was the same songs on about an hour or 2 loop... Another plus for me for Apple Music is that it's on my Apple TV, which allows me to play it on my TV at home too.
When using CarPlay in my truck with Sync 3, the maps (whether Apple, Google or Waze) doesn't cover the entire screen. If I need a bigger picture I just tap on the map, which then opens to the full screen, and then I can easily move it around. It can't be any easier. And of course being CarPlay, Apple Music works seamlessly in it too...
I wouldn't say I am gaga over it, but it does work very well for me and the best part is I don't have to pay anything extra for it, or hook up any other devices. Saying that, I do keep a Garmin in the truck, just in case I am traveling and loose connection (although I can also download the maps for offline use before hand) or if I just can't use my phone for whatever reason. But I'm also looking forward to see what's going to be new in the next CarPlay update too!
But, if it's not your thing, that's great too. It's good that there are multiple options to suit us all the best way we need/want them to.
All of my music is on my iphone with itunes so car play works for that. I use google maps on car play for navigation. I also have XM so I use that on road trips. I also have car play on the Gold Wing so that makes it easier. It all works for me so I stick with it.

Hopefully not, unless you miss a payment for the subscription based Ford Navigation (that can only be used in that one vehicle, as opposed to in any vehicle, like a rental car, bicycle, train, horseback.. however you travel).
And if you miss a payment for Sirius XM, you might be missing some of your favorite programming... which is only available on Sirius XM's timing schedule... not your own schedule by selection.
What folks who don't use Ford Navigation or satellite radio services are missing... is the annual bill for those services.
Which isn't a bad thing to miss.
I wish that Ford would offer in car built in Navigation that didn't require a subscription, where people could elect to update it, if they choose, at a fair price, but that otherwise still worked based on data baked in when the truck was built and first sold... like the old DVD Nav systems were.
Moore's Law, now obliviated by nVidia's new law that is 10 times faster, has made it so that all of the map data in North America can easily fit on a small chip.
Yes, roads change from time to time, but the Statute of Liberty is still standing in the same place, and Route 66 is still there. I'll bet lot of folks grew up in homes that are still around, and still accessible via the same streets, a half century later.
Most folks can get by just fine without having updated details of every new minor subdivision of high density tract homes in suburbia. And folks who can't get by without having all the data to places they will never go anyway, still have the option to pay for an update.
But at least give customers who already paid $2,000 for the Navigation Radio... what they paid for at the time they paid for it, without requiring them to pay for it again incrementally 3 months later.

Doesn't your King Ranch have the 12" split screen? My Lariat does and I can put what I want on the wide side and the narrow side, so I can see both. Plus, there's an app for Sirius so I'm not sure why you have to use your phone?
At any rate, for me at least, CarPlay gives me a seamless, hands free experience.
I use it because its faster to enter an address. Most incar navs take 30 minutes to enter an address, so annoying, has the gall to bring up addresses 10 states away as options lol.
I like carplay. Is it perfect? Nope. Does it glitch sometimes, yes. But It's still a decent interface for audio/nav and the iPhone. I've used Google Maps, Waze, and Apple native. I like Google Maps the best, I think they have the best data/graphics. I like the speed limit posting/speedometer on Waze, but all of the notifications are super distracting and annoying. I've gone back and forth and I've found that the Apple native nav app works best when using Siri and hands free directions. I don't pay for music so I use the free Spotify or Pandora music or podcasts. Those both work well for what I need. My use of carplay is fairly basic. I do wish I could cast video for the 4-5 passengers, Netflix, Youtube, Peacock, etc. but DOT will never allow that...

Admittedly, I haven't had my truck for 90 days, but I'm under the impression that my truck falls into the category below, which seems to fit the navigation criteria you're looking for:

Notice the asterisks at the end of the "(3 Years of Service)"... those stand for "gotcha!"
Someone will correct me if I am wrong, and maybe things are different now, but it seems I recall from the past years that only the highest trims (maybe Platinum and Limited?) got the free trial that was greater than 3 months. And if I also remember correctly, if you din't pay to update it monthly/yearly after it expired, the map/navigation system was useless. Sure, it would show you the map, and a little dot that pinpointed your location, but you couldn't do anything with it... you couldn't actually type in an address and expect it to take you there because that was part of the subscription service. Again, maybe I am wrong, and especially so since that was the 22MY's I am thinking about, but I wouldn't be surprised if it were still the same.

Moore's Law has to do with number of transistors on an integrated circuit. Nvidia's chips when stacked have insane compute power nothing really to do with Moore's law. TSMC, Samsung, and Intel still develop the leading edge technology that Nvidia uses to design their chips.

The sync4 nav is actually pretty awesome in that regard, the voice to text has worked every time I have tried it vs a 25% success rate on Sync3.
I like that I can just say, "Hey Siri, I need directions to Name of restaurant" and away we go. However, if we're going though Carson City, on our way to Reno there is a dead spot about 300 yards long on the highway, and more often than not that causes trouble. I've also noted when driving forest service/logging roads where there is no cell service, the on board maps work surprisingly well....
