Why bother with Apple Car Play? (sorry Android folks - I don't have a clue how your stuff works)
Without Car Play I can: Sync 4 Nav: Move, pinch and squeeze the screen to get a view I like/want/need. Sync 4 S/XM: See title and artist (I'm not good at remembering titles and artists). Waze on iPhone: Alerts me to traffic hazards, delays, etc., and police (only important as I am not speeding but it helps alert me for the fools that slam on the brakes to get 10 MPH under the speed limit for some reason). I can set a destination (usually if not towing) or not. Garmin: (Only used when towing) Provides all routing info, rest stop info, file stop info, etc.
With Car Play: Maps (Apple or Google or Waze) take up the full screen and you can't move the map around using the Ford touch screen. And you have to tap the screen just to get a plus and minus symbol just to zoom in and out. S/XM - have to use phone and can't see info at a glance
So for me Car Play is utterly useless. Am I missing something? Why are folks gaga over Car Play?
tes you can, on google maps you have to tap the screen and use the arrows on the bottom right corner to move right, left up or down. I use it every day.
if you don’t want full screen, in the top left hand corner by where it shows your phone charge, there is an arrow that you click to make it a split screen. Then you get the menu to pop backup on the right side.
only flaw with maps is on cold mornings it’s slow to load the maps and the screen stays black. Has to do with the CarPlay app. Android auto is far superior to CarPlay, but androids are better then apple….. millions more produced so they have the money and tech to update and have a better platform. Hate apple, but what I got.
Thankfully I live where the nearest "spaghetti roads" are the hairpin turns to go down to the river and back up...
Would be nice to pinch and zoom out and it remain that way a moment and zoom back in automatically. Alternatively also zoom back in if you are close to needing a lane change.
Some of these apps are so un-intuitive they become a distraction; when they are trying to not be.
