1996 E4OD into 1992

Hello all!

so I’m fairly new to the IDI world and I’m trying to learn fairly quick. So bare with me please.

this should be fairly flat out, but I have a 1992 f250 7.3idi with the amazing e4od. Recently the tranny let go and the only tranny I could find close to me was out of a 1996 f350. Would they be the same? What would I have to do to make it work?

DId the one from a 1996 come from a diesel? If not, then it won't bolt in. Also, if your truck is a 4x2 the new trans has to be from a 4x2. If it is a 4x4 the new trans has to be from a 4x4.

If it did come from a diesel, I think you'll need to replace the torque converter because if I remember correctly your truck has a four stud converter and the 1996 will have a six stud converter. You don't want to use the converter out of the failed transmission because it will bring debris with it and cause the new transmission to fail.

Also, the 1996 solenoid body isn't compatible with the 1992 computer. You need a solenoid body for a 1992.
