In my 54 F-100 is a 51 Ford Crestline automatic steering column had a original 54 Steering BIG wheel---Install a correct kit to make the switch to a 14'' wheel----- Running on idle it jumped into Reverse what is WORN out and can it be repaired with what part -- Did it one time with ORIGINAL wheel on and one time with 14 '' new wheel and kit--- Thanks
There is a slot that the shift lever locking mechanism engages when you put your shift lever into Park. The problem is over the years that slot gets wallowed out by people who never properly pulled the shift lever towards the steering wheel to disengage the lever locking mechanism while putting it into Neutral to start the car or Reverse or Drive. You may need to pull off the steering wheel, and the "bell" below it and the trim around the PRNDL indicator to see it.
I had the same problem at one time.
Here is a good thread that shows how one member repaired this issue. In the mentime don't idle it without being in the cab. Especially on fast idle!
