I ordered the truck with the trailer TPMS option, has the 5th wheel prep too so, the plug/wiring is in the bed. I've done a fair amount of searching and reading and cannot resolve my issue. I'm getting the message "trailer with tire pressure sensors not detected". I got the wiring and black box but, the tire sensors were not in the truck. The dealer sent me 4 sensors, part# HC3J1A515ACSUB7 on the box. I watched some videos on getting this set up and it looked pretty straight forward.
I've driven with the trailer to "activate" the sensors. I read about this but, it didn't resolve the issue.
I took a wheel off the trailer and put it up close the relay box, no dice.
Tried adding another trailer.
Forscan shows trailer tpms enabled.
I tested continuity on the wiring harness and it's good.
Did the dealer send me sensors with the wrong frequency? I'm not sure what else to try/think.
Mine did not look like that. Mine are below. Note they should be 433Mhz. And they should have come in the same box/kit as the black box. No cable. Have to buy that.
I had a hard time figuring out what I needed too, and Ford is of no help. My thread below might have something to help you. Ford TPMS and Keystone Wheel Issue - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums (ford-trucks.com)
I got this bag and no sensors with the truck. When I let the salesman know, I’m thinking he had the parts department send some out and they’re incorrect. Maybe someone else has some insight on the sensors I received.
thanks
I do not recognize the wire/cable that you have there. No clue what that is.
The kit for trailer TPMS that came with your truck should be p/n PC3Z-1A189-J.
Then you will need the truck/trailer base harness. Either p/n PC3Z-15A416-A or PC3Z-15A416-B. Depending on whether you have the trailer Yaw sensor. Either of those cables will also plug into the rear trailer camera, if you want to buy that. The camera kit including a 49' cable is p/n PC3Z-19G490C.
The last picture is just the bag and zip ties from the kit. The cable is routed on the trailer and the black box not permanently mounted until I know things are working. No camera, want to focus on the trailer TPMS. I definitely did not get a box like you did.
As far as I know, those are the base cable options. Those are what plugs into the 12 pin socket in your bed, next to the trailer 7 pin. Both support a camera. They come with dummy plugs if you choose to not use an option such as camera.
Seems to me they did not give you the TPMS option you ordered.
I don't think you have the complete trailer TPMS kit from the dealer yet. That looks like the yaw sensor for 5th wheels.
You should get a combo 7-pin and 12-pin jack to install in your bumper (replaces the 7-pin/4-pin combo), and there's a different receiver for the trailer TPMS sensors. Look at the following page. The TPMS receiver is in the center... it's a smallish rectangle box with plug on one end. The cable will connect there and then connect to the 12-pin jack on your bumper. The yaw sensor has the red plastic covering the double-sided tape in the pic. I'm thinking you installed the yaw, thinking it was the TPMS receiver.
I ordered the trailer TPMS kit also, but it was backordered and didn't arrive with the truck. The yaw sensor DID arrive with the truck. Hope this helps. Good luck.
So I am not sure you have the right kit. My truck came with a kit that only included the YAW sensor (black box) and harness. I had to order another kit https://www.fairwayfordparts.net/oem...kup-lc3z1a189b which came with a different harness and a different black box for the Trailer TPMS and the 4 sensors. That harness replaced the one the truck came with and connects to both the YAW sensor and TPMS box. Once that harness and those two boxes are installed you have to connect it to the truck and run through the programming procedure which involves letting are out each tire one at a time as directed by the trucks instrument cluster. Here is a link which includes a how to video for the programming https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...ogramming.html
My truck has the 12 pin plug in the bed from the factory, I don’t need that stuff. It seems there are various part numbers for the sensors. I reached out to the dealer over the weekend. Headed out with the 5th wheel today and won’t be able to utilize the trailer tpms, frustrating.
There are many variations of the part number depending on your truck, though I don’t know if they have a different part number for 5th wheels. Point being though is that you need the specific box for the TPMS, it’s not the same as the Yaw sensor box. The 12-pin came in the package even though I also have one in the bed but Ford cheaped out and didn’t install the 12-pin in the bumper, I think that’s why they included it.
Did the package that you have only include one “black box” sensor? If so that is only for yaw for the pro-backup control.
and this is a picture of the block diagram. Hope this helps, Ford made it very confusing, you can use the connector in the bed, the boxes are what’s important.
The kit comes with that other "stuff", so that does not mean the kit Gadget posted is wrong. In fact I think it is correct. I don't know what the dealer sent you, but pretty clearly it is wrong. We might be able to help you more if you posted pics of everything that you got. Also need to know if your truck has the Pro Trailer backup **** on the dash. Having that or not changes what harness you need.
The other "stuff" in that photo above are:
Bottom line from left.
1. Tie wraps
2. A 12 pin to 4 pin trailer plug adapter. Just keep it in case you ever need one for some small trailer.
3. A "dock" for the 12 pin connector. It is simply a dummy socket to stick the cord in when not towing. I mounted mine on the pin box. The 12 pin is transmitting some low voltage data and a clean connection is important, more so than the normal 7 pin which is only 12vdc. You'll notice the 12 pin has a seal to keep it clean and dry.
4. The black box which you mount near the axles on the trailer. That box communicates wirelessly with the wheel sensors, then sends the data to the truck via the cable harness.
5. A new 7 pin and 12 pin socket. If you did not have the 5th wheel prep connector in the bed side you would use this to replace the socket in the step bumper. You will not need this at all unless you wanted to plug your trailer cables into the bumper instead of the bed socket.
