Hoping a few of you can verify what I see with my SBC engine casting numbers, I'm reading 3970014 which should be a 1970-1973 350 SBC. Anyone seeing anything different or have I lost my mind, my brother swears that is not what he sees. All help appreciated in advance.
There is a tab on the front of the block right below the rh cylinder head. There should be an ID code stamped onto that tab that can be decoded to identify what it is.

With 4 younger brothers I can understand you don't want yours to be right but if he says he does not read what you posted, he is correct. I also read the S9 number. As far as Effie's photoshop, sure you change any number if you add and omit part of the casting.
I took the picture so no photo shop or numbers omitted, the picture captures all the casting numbers there. When I look up SBC casting de-coding numbers, none start with an S hence I thought it must be a 3. Do you know any sight where I can find casting codes that may be helpful?
Passenger side...right below the cylinder head. You will need the ID that starts with a letter.
like the example starts with an F.
Hopefully it hasn't been ground off.
