How to identify frame
I just have what is hopefully 2 easy questions......
I have a 1998 F150 4x4 Crew cab (3 door). Long story short, i'm looking for a donor truck to steal the frame from. Finding this exact truck has been a little hard. How do I know what variations in the F150 lineup I could use for a frame swap? I don't want to buy a truck only to find out the frames aren't the same. I assume there are some options here, but I don't know what they are.
Also, is there a difference between the frames if they are automatic trucks vs. manual? I assume any donor would need to be 4x4, but I don't know if the mounts will be different between auto/manual versions.
Thanks in advance, much appreciated!

I imagine you can use any 97-04 that share this body style. The bed doesn’t matter. Configuration and wheelbase do.
4x4 matters if that’s what you have. Not many were manual transmission and SuperCab, so you won’t have much there to bother with.
Other than a Framers front yard park place for all he has owned things are getting scarce.
Is this your truck?
Post a pic of your truck ? To really be of help to you we need to know your exact truck. Post its stuff along with pictures of it. Follow directions in the header above, look for "Upload" from
your smart phone pic's. Sometimes there is a white tag on the frame that identifies it.
That is it. It's a 3 door (didn't know if that made it a super cab or what specifically), 4.6, 5 speed, 4x4, had a 6 or 6.5ft bed....not sure.
Honestly, this is my old mans truck. It was used to move out of IL, which we both always hated, and build essentially a homestead in SC. Basically it has a good amount of sentimental value to me, otherwise I would never have taken this project on. It was in HORRIBLE shape body/frame wise, and honestly it's probably stupid that i'm even doing this. I have over 1000hrs and about $5-6k worth of parts in this thing. I've done everything on it outdoors and in the dirt. It's become one of those things where it's like "i've gone this far.....should I finish.... or just make it road worthy and sell it?" Now I need a new rear differential for it as well.
ANYWAY....I just want to find a donor truck that I can steal parts from, whatever they may be and finish this damn thing, but I want to make sure i'm not buying the wrong thing. I think i'll be hard pressed to find another just like this one.
I found a bunch of super cabs with the short bed like mine, but all were auto. I'm just wondering if the frame will be the same, mounts and all, between what I have and an auto or a 2wd version? Does anyone know for sure? I suppose I could call a Ford dealer and see if they know as well. I could also transfer the crossmembers, so i'm not worried about that. Literally just want to know if the frames would be the same on the above mentioned. Thanks!
Obviously it's a budget build, so be nice on the comments. LOL
Sentimental value and I actually like these trucks a lot in the super cab v8 4x4 MANUAL version...... is why.
Used and abused to transform property in SC. Then sat here for 4 years. Rust holes in the floor, all over the bottoms of panels, and on rusted (not holes) frame.
Checked oil, threw a new battery in, fired right up, washed.
An ungodly amount of new parts, more time than I care to admit (mostly rust repair), and probably more money than I should have spent.
