Another Wheel Bearing Question

I have a 1993 F-150 4x4 with manual hubs and am having trouble adjusting the front wheel bearings......I have read all the tech guides on the proper procedure but am having trouble understanding the high torque (150 ft-lbs+) required for the outer nut. All that seems to do is increase pressure on the inner nut and makes the bearings tight....and yes....I have installed the inner nut and lock washer properly. It seems that if I torque the outer nut to match the inner nut (about 40-50 ft-lbs), the bearings spin freely with no endplay. Any help would be appreciated.

The outer nut is supposed to lock in the torque on the inner nut. I have not done one in a while, isn't there a pin that holds the inner nut from turning when you torque the outer nut?

That is correct....the inner nut is not spinning due to the Pin/lockwasher. However, the high torque on the outer nut seems to put pressure on the bearing and it becomes much tighter to spin the wheel.
